Morgan’s Homemade Lemonade

One of the nice things about heading west during the winter is the beautiful California sunshine.  Well that and the fact that my parents have two lemon trees in the backyard.

And lemon trees of course equate to my sister Morgan’s family-famous lemonade.

I thought about saving this for a more seasonably-appropriate post for those of us actually experiencing winter weather, but honestly who doesn’t want a little taste of summer in the dead of winter? And this recipe is so easy, you’ll be envisioning yourself beach side in no time.

You’ll need:

  • 6 lemons
  • 1 cup of sugar
  • 6 cups of water
  • small sauce pan
  • juicer

After rolling the lemons on the counter top to get the juices flowing, Morgan halved them and began juicing the old fashioned way. (No fancy schmancy juicers here!)

After juicing, Morgan created a simple syrup by heating the water with the cup of sugar over medium heat. It only took a few minutes for the sugar to melt down, and doing so eliminated any grittiness from the dissolving sugar.

Because M is of the anti-pulp lemonade camp, she chose to pour the juice through a sifter before mixing the lemon juice with the syrup, but that step is definitely not necessary if you don’t mind a little pulp.

Got your beach towel ready? It’s officially summertime. Now, somebody go grab me some vodka.

There is nothing better than fresh lemonade–I make it constantly in the summer (and now, when I want to feel like it’s summer!). I’m so jealous of your lemon tree!

Thank you for sharing this, I have a lemon tree infront of my house and last week my mom and I were just saying we need to find more recipes for all these lemons. She tried simple lemon juice with water and it was horrible! haha So I am definitely going to try this.

Yummmm! It’s rather warm in Chicago right now, but maybe when it gets really cold again, I’ll have a summer picnic in the living room with this lemonade. Thanks for sharing!

I absolutely love lemonade. It does make me miss summer, though. I need to move to a house with a lemon tree in the backyard. Thanks for the recipe.

STOP TEMPTING ME WITH THE BEAUTFUL SUNSHINE! I freaked out because I was able to see a little bit of the sun peak behind the clouds today – winter in Wisconsin is cruel!

but, when it gets to be warmer I’m going to have to try this – it looks delicious and these photos are adorable!

Lemon oil may be used in aromatherapy. Researchers at The Ohio State University found that lemon oil aroma does not influence the human immune system, but may enhance mood.

Lemon juice and rind are used to make marmalade and lemon liqueur. Lemon slices and lemon rind are used as a garnish for food and drinks. Lemon zest, the grated outer rind of the fruit, is used to add flavor to baked goods, puddings, rice and other dishes..;-,
