As a girl who tends towards wardrobe classics, I’ve always found it interesting when classic items are suddenly considered trendy. Let’s take polka dots for example: sure, I’m glad that their popularity has allowed me to pepper more outfits with polka dot cuteness, but considering it’s a print many of us have been rocking since pre-k, I’d hardly consider it trendy. What’s next? Pencil skirts are the new hot item for Fall? (Well actually, I’m secretly hoping this is comes true. ‘Cause I’ll be the trendiest gal in the office.)
When it comes to clothes do you find yourself leaning more towards the classics? What’s your take on classic items being trendy?
Tee: Forever21 (not online- similar), Skirt: J.Crew Factory, Sandals: Franco Sarto c/o Marshalls (similar), Belt: Forever21 (similar), Necklace: Banana Republic Outlet (similar), Earrings: J.Crew Factory

I definitely lean towards the more classic looks…and I’m with you, so glad that the staple items are really trendy right now. Who says pencil skirts can’t be “on trend” for fall?! 🙂 Love this outfit…the emerald green is gorgeous on you.
Love this look, I would so wear that to work.
Your sandals are perfect!
This is such a cute look! and I know what you mean, it’s funny to me when people say classic items are ‘in’…they’re always in, it’s just different variations 🙂
oh man. it would be awesome if suddenly pencil skirts became the “it” thing. I love the green!
This is SO DANG CUTE!! I love this look! Just entered your giveaway too! 🙂

As far as clothes go, I try to stick with some classics and go a little trendy with my accessories. I feel like the polka dot trend comes and goes frequently, usually associated with dot size or colors.
Love your pink accessories by the way!
such a cute outfit and totally something i could see myself wearing!!

SO FREAKING CUTE! Woops, sorry, didn’t mean to yell. I want that top!
Loving the polka-dots, especially paired with the green skirt! A great transitioning outfit into fall as well.

That polka dot top is adorable! I also think it’s funny that classic prints like polka dots are stripes are “in”…were they ever really “out”?

I love a bright pencil skirt – and somethings will just always be on trend! We are sandal twins too – they such a great comfortable pair!
I completely agree with you. I find it funny when people talk about black and white stripes being on trend, stripes are classic in my opinion. I really don’t care about trends, I f I like something I will buy and wear it for years.
such a fun look, love it!!!!
Have a great day
Renee
I go both ways! I mean I have a couple hi-low dresses which I’m sure by next year will be “OUT” and not cool. But I’m not one to follow trend rules. I’ll still wear them! And polka dots should never be considered a trend, they are classic! I think it is kind of silly that things like black & white, polka dots, etc. are considered trends. I mean I get it for collections that come out but just be like, hey some classics reinvented for the season! Anyway, super cute look I really really really love the color of this skirt!
Such a cute outfit! I just bought a lace pencil skirt and am totally clueless about picking out a top.
I liked all three descriptors in your title, and I loooove this look. The polka dots are super cute. I like when something like polka dots starts trending because then I can find them everywhere 😉

Holy cow this outfit is ADORABLE! I LOVE that green J Crew skirt – I wish I lived closer to an outlet store (because let’s be real, the regular priced items kind of scare me). But I’m right there with you – I hope pencil skirts become a fall trend, because I’m totally in love with them!
Lauren, I LOVE this outfit! The magenta and teal look so good against the black and white polka dots! Your hair looks amazing too!
I LOVE the pink and green and of coiurse the “trendy” polka dots, heheh.
I share your love for polka-dots, they will never go out of style. Great color combination!

Love this outfit. I cannot remember a time when polka dots and stripes were not a huge part of my wardrobe.
Regarding style. I wouldn’t call mine classic although I do have a lot of classic items but the items I always love the most are extremely feminine, glamorous items that are not necessarily appropriate for some occasions/days (where talking tulle, sequins, ruffles, bows, etc.).

I’m seriously loving this look from head to toe! Your top is too cute. Polka dots are actually my favorite print =)

polka dots are always a good idea!!!
Oh my goodness…I LOVE THIS OUTFIT! Polka dots and that jade green are the perfect combo! Also loving your hair, gorgeous!
Right???? Since when did polka dots go out of style and come back “in”? And pencil skirts….girl, they will always be a classic! You are always so polished and fun! And thanks for being part of my post today!! xoxo
So cute! I love that top.
I tend to lean towards classic, things that will stick around in my wardrobe for a while.
But I like to add in a few trends here and there as well. Usually I wear what I like, whether it is “in style” or trendy or not. More so now that I hit 30! I could care less what other’s think of what I wear…usually (sometimes I am self-conscious, like when I wear my polka dot pants..)! 🙂
Love love love the polka dots and green together! I have always liked polka dots, such a fun print.

Love these pieces together! Even though pencil skirts seem to be really on trend for fall, I think they are the classic piece in this look! And I love love love the idea of refreshing classics, like sporting pencil skirts in fun colors like that green 🙂

I love this piece with both the large and small polka dots! You look very sophisticated but still totally fun & girly 🙂
Haha, I totally agree with you about classics becoming “trends,” but hey, if I am suddenly trendy for wearing polka dots, then that’s fine by me! I actually love when trends are something that I already love, because then there’s a billion more options!
I love this look on you too – very cute for work!
I’d say my wardrobe is like 95% classic. Even when I do take on trends, I feel like it’s always in a classic piece. (Sure, I’ll try neon, but it’s going to be in a bracelet or shirtdress.) Funny enough, I just bought my first pencil skirt today! Even though they’re supposed to be “universally flattering,” I always feel like they’re too tight on my middle and then falling off my butt. But I have a job interview on Wednesday so I just ordered a classic black one from Gap. Let’s hope it works out…

Thanks for your comment, Lauren! I’m totally with you on the polka dots craze. I won’t stop wearing them (or stripes or florals) when they fall out of favor for the next big trend. I’ve never really been a solid color only kinda gal. Love this cute pre-fall office-appropriate look! The green skirt is fab. 🙂
This look is so amazing, Hun! Perfect styling. I love your blog! Following you!! xo

This is Classic Preppy indeed. I love the Necklace & Earrings. I bought a similar necklace this year. I agree Polka Dots & Pencil Skirts (trendy or whatnot) will never go out of style.
