How to Build a Maternity Wardrobe, Part 4

The #1 way I saved major money when it came to my maternity wardrobe was by becoming a remixing master. (What is remixing? Mixing and matching your clothes to create the maximum amount of unique outfit combinations!) I thought I was pretty decent before pregnancy, but working with a very limited wardrobe honed my skills. (Unsure of where to even start with your maternity wardrobe? Make sure you visit Part 1 to assess your closet, Part 2 to create a shopping list, and Part 3 for shopping tips!)

Part 4: Become a Remixing QueenHow to build a maternity wardrobe. MUST-SEE tips for remixing your pregnancy wardrobe!

By sticking with remixable pieces like basic prints and solids, mixing and matching between options should be a breeze. But part of getting dressed is all about personal style, right? Put your own spin on looks with these tips:

Don’t forget to utilize your completer pieces!

Remember that a lot of these can be non-maternity! Jackets, vests, or cardigans don’t have to close or zip to be worn! Don’t have many (or any of these) in your non-maternity wardrobe? They’ll be worth the investment for pregnancy and beyond. Pick up one or two and get to remixing!

  • Denim jackets (blue, white, or other colors!)
  • Blazers (printed or solid)
  • Cargo/military style jackets
  • Sweater jackets
  • Kimonos
  • Denim vests
  • Leather/vegan leather vests
  • Suit style vests
  • Cargo/military vests
  • Cardigans
  • Button downs (like chambray!) that can be worn open

Changing accessories can change a look (and they always fit!)

Minor changes can really make a big impact! Think of bold necklaces, belts, or simply switching up your shoes. A flat, wedge, or bootie can make a big difference in the appearance or style of your outfit!

When all else fails, look for new inspiration

I get stuck just like everyone else, but blogs and Pinterest are great sources for inspiration. You can revisit my maternity style posts at any time or take a look at my Mix it Monday series, which only features outfits with remixed pieces!

To get you started, here are a few examples!

Love this! You always do a great job mixing and matching your pieces, and it’s especially helpful for a period of time where most women don’t want to spend a fortune to look great for a short while.
